We know that buying an Aeropress can seem a little daunting, but luckily for you, we’ve compiled this article full of some of the most common questions and their answers. We hope it makes your life easier!

The AeroPress is an easy-to-use coffee maker that is loved by many and feared by some. It’s simple to use, compact to store away and produces very well-balanced coffee with a low acidity level.

More than half a million people have purchased the Aeropress, but don’t find it easy to use? Then check out our article about aeropress tips , which will help you brew the perfect cup of coffee with this fascinating tool.

Let’s see the most common questions, shall we?

Is the Aeropress dishwasher safe?

Is the Aeropress dishwasher safe?

It is safe to clean on the top shelf of a dishwasher.  By adding the AeroPress parts to the upper rack of your dishwasher, the pieces will get unblemished and will look incredible after that.

The water from the dishwasher can get pretty hot when the dishwasher is running its program. This is why the vast majority will, in general, avoid the dishwasher concerning their cleaning choices.

Albeit the dishwasher runs pretty hot, contingent upon the program you have picked, the warmth won’t destroy your AeroPress.

Aeropress, the now famous coffee brewing device, has been designed to be used with paper filters. Cleaning it can be a bit tricky, so in our article How to Clean Aeropress we reveal some insider tips.

Can you use Aeropress for tea?

Can you use boiling water in AeroPress?
Yes, you can make fantastic tea with the Aeropress. You may use it for any infusion or tisane.

There aren’t many differences between infusing a tea leaf with hot water in a tumbler or an Aeropress- but still, we have some tips to make your Aeropress brewing more successful:

We recommend using fine tea, such as Japanese Sencha.

Brewing time should be 2 minutes max (for more delicate leaves) and 1 min 30 seconds at the most (for coarser leaves).

To make tea –

  • Step 1:  Boil the water
  • Step 2: Add the tea leaf.
  • Step 3:  Pour the water into the Aeropress and let it steep for 45–60 seconds, depending on your taste.
  • Step 4: Remove the filter and press.
  • Step 5: Enjoy your cup of tea!
(You must not pour hot water into a full Aeropress – this will leave melting plastic in your brew!)

Aeropress vs aeropress go

Alan Adler invented the Aeropress in 2005.  The Aeropress is made of durable stainless steel. The AeroPress aero comes from the paper filters used to filter water for espresso, making it a double-edged sword.

The main difference between the two is that the Aeropress is a single-dose brewing system.

In contrast, the Aeropress is a travel version of the Aeropress – with travel caps and cleaning materials to be compact and portable for home and away.

  • Size: The Aeropress is about 250ml, and the Aeropress go is about 100ml.

  • Filter: The Aeropress is made of stainless steel filter, which you can use many times, and the filters of the Aeropress are paper filters, which you can only use once.

  • Cleaning: The Aeropress go comes with a cleaning kit to clean easily when traveling. But the reusable filter system makes it easier and faster to clean than the reusable filter system on the Aeropress.

  • Design: the Aeropress go has a more compact design for travel use, and it’s easier to carry.

  • Capacity: The Aeropress go can’t pack the coffee powder in the filter, so it’s equal to a single-dose system. But the Aeropress can pack the coffee powder in the filter, which makes it more convenient to travel with.

  • Accessories: Aeropress accessories are pretty much the same as Aeropress, such as a scoop and a cleaning kit.

  • Price: The Aeropress is more affordable than the Aeropress, but the Aeropress has a better material quality and is more durable.

  • Batch size: The Aeropress go can only make one batch per filter, while the manual brew system of the Aeropress can make multiple batches in one day with its reusable filter system.

Aeropress is mainly for home use while the Aeropress go is used for travel.

Choose your favourite version and enjoy it!

Is Aeropress a french press?

Is Aeropress a french press?

Despite having the word “press” in its name, the Aeropress and the french press are very different brewing methods.

French press is used to brew coffee by placing ground coffee into a press and then pouring hot water over coffee.

On the other hand, the Aeropress uses a paper filter to filter out the grounds from the brew. Then pour that through a mesh screen into your mug like any other drip coffee maker.

Let’s see the differences between the two:

The filter

The French press has a mesh filter that allows the grounds to pass through it, while the AeroPress’s paper filter only lets brewed coffee come out.

The mesh screen of the french press allows sediment to pass through, creating a coarser and more textured brew that contains residue.

On the other hand, an Aeropress’s paper filters are for single-use – they remove any sediment to create a clear and tasteful cup of coffee every time.

The infusion time.

The AeroPress’s infusion time ranges from about 20-60 seconds, so it gives you more flexibility than the french press as you can choose to make a full-bodied brew by leaving it in for longer or a lighter brew by pressing it for less time.

On the other hand, the french press generally holds its plunger in for 4 minutes and is then ready to serve.

Therefore, the French Press has a longer infusion time which can extract more coffee flavour.

The serving method.

The french press can serve as any other traditional coffee maker, but Aeropress always needs to be flipped upside down for serving.

Taste of coffee.

The French press gives a more thick and rich result of coffee, while the Aeropress gives a more clean and light.

But in the end, both Aeropress and french press give you a great cup of coffee.

So you can choose which one works for your taste.

Aeropress double shot

Aeropress double shot

The Aeropress can make two shots at the same time. A double shot is a method of brewing multiple shots of espresso at the same time.

To make a double shot, you need an Aeropress, two filters, and two separate portions of water: one for each shot.
  • Step 1: Boil the water (500ml)
  • Step 2: Medium grind 36 grams of your coffee
  • Step 3: Set up your Aeropress and put the coffee into the chamber
  • Step 4: Bloom with a small amount of water, and stir
  • Step 5: Fill the Aeropress chamber, leave room for stirring.
  • Step 6: Fill the Aeropress to the top & leave to steep
  • Step 7: Place the filter cap on the Aeropress, flip onto your brewing jugs, and plunge.
  • Step 8: Enjoy your double shot coffee!

Does Aeropress make espresso?

Does Aeropress make espresso?

No. Not really.

Want to make an espresso drink with an aeropress? We’ve got the recipe for you in our Aeropress espresso recipe post.

Aeropress makes an entirely different brew – it’s more of a coffee-y espresso drink than an actual “espresso” (which is made with the espresso machine or an espresso drink made in the traditional French press).

Nevertheless, Aeropress brews a dark roast of coffee with a full-body, similar to espresso. Therefore, you can also achieve a complete extraction with it.

Is Aeropress worth it?

Is Aeropress worth it?

The Aeropress is a great coffee maker with its primary goal to provide a rich, smooth, and full-bodied type of coffee.

Aeropress coffee is extremely popular and has a ton of benefits. We’ve written about its many benefits in our Aeropress coffee benefits article.

It's all about how you use it.

For a long time, people would use their Aeropress with paper filters to believe that it was somehow better for them.

But now, that belief is challenged, and a new method has come up. It is known as the “inverted method“, where you can brew your coffee with a metal filter instead of paper.

The result was a smoother brew and one that makes use of all non-paper elements of the Aeropress.

This is great for people who love coffee but hate paper in their cups. With the metal filter, you almost completely remove any traces of paper from your drink.

Plus, this makes your cup thicker and more concentrated than using paper filters.

It's a bit like creating espresso with a french press - it comes out beautiful with an intense flavour profile.

How much caffeine is in Aeropress coffee?

How much caffeine is in Aeropress coffee?
The Aeropress is often compared to the french press and produces 6 ounces of coffee in every cup.

However, the amount of caffeine in a cup of Aeropress coffee is pretty similar to the amount in a french press, so that’s about 80mg – compared to the average cup of drip coffee, which contains 100mg.

Is Aeropress better than french press?

Aeropress is different from the french press, but the results are similar to those of a french press.

The Aerobie AeroPress is a new kind of coffee maker designed with brewing in mind. It’s made in the USA, and it claims to be better than the French Press, which was originally developed 150 years ago.

Aeropress vs french press:

Both of them produce a robust and full-bodied brew of coffee. You can make two cups at a time with both methods.

However, the Aeropress has more advantages:

  • Second, since it’s easy to use and quick to clean up, the Aeropress is an ideal choice for an office environment or travel use.
  • Third, you can control the coffee’s volume with its precision cap, and you can adjust the amount of coffee to taste. Finally, you can try it out, brew a double shot of coffee by using less water or an espresso shot by utilizing more water.
  • Fourth, the Aeropress is easy to clean – you rinse it and let it dry. Since there are no paper filters needed, there’s no need to rinse your coffee maker after each cup.
  • Fifth, the Aeropress has a built-in plunger that helps you press your coffee without any stray grounds going into your cup – so it’s almost a hard-plastic tamper built into each Aeropress.
If you want to make a lighter brew, check out the AeroPress because it uses less water than the French Press.

The French press is designed to make a darker roast, so it’s easier to brew a more robust coffee using that type of machine.

The AeroPress, on the other hand, is designed for making a lighter roast, so it's easier to get a more delicate brew with it.

If you’re an avid coffee drinker, you need to try both. Is it better than the french press? Well, that depends on you. It’s up to you to decide which system is better for you.

How many oz does Aeropress make?

The Aeropress can hold up to 8oz of water (250ml) and can make a full-sized cup of coffee in a matter of 30 seconds.

What is the Aeropress funnel for?

The funnel is designed to transfer the ground coffee from the coffee grinder bin to the Aeropress chamber. It also keeps the grounds from escaping.

It also makes storing the AeroPress easier since you can neatly keep the funnel inside the chamber.

How many bars of pressure are Aeropress?

The Aeropress can generate up to .35 to .75 bars of pressure, depending on the type of coffee grinder you use.

What kind of grind for Aeropress?

There are 3 types of grinds for Aeropress: coarse, medium, and fine. You can also use either a fine drip or espresso grind.

A coarse grind will allow more air into the grounds, while finer grinds won’t give you optimum extraction.

Keep in mind that espresso beans are usually more delicate than French Press beans since they contain more oils.

The best type of coarse grind to use when brewing with the AeroPress is a medium grind.

What grind size for Aeropress?

Another kind of Aeropress grind that you can use is the French Press grind. You can choose any of the three grinds to use for AeroPress, but it’s best to use a medium grind.

No matter what kind of coffee bean you're using, ground or whole beans, use a coarse grind.

The purpose of this is to let more air get into the grounds, so they don’t clog up during brewing.

This will help you achieve a complete extraction, and you'll get more flavour out of your coffee.

How to store Aeropress?

When you finish making your coffee, eject the used coffee after brewing. Store it by pushing the silicone seal through the Aeropress chamber.

There are 3 air holes on the bottom of the chamber, which allows air to circulate and dry up any leftover coffee.

Another tip is to rinse out your Aeropress with cold water after brewing and before storing. That way, any remaining coffee residue can dissolve, and it won’t stain your cups.
